we're in thenists or 40s and if you're experiencing any fog, it's very issue very light and around the south coast area. the current temperature is 50 degrees in boston and 47, fitchburg; forrester, 49 degrees and 59 on the cape there. a couple of mid-50s from the vineyard to nantucket. and those are the high temperatures for the day and not warming up too much. all afternoon is going to being well like it's raining as well. the clouds are in place and becoming thick and some areas of drizzle popping up in worcester county and that will stick around throughout the day and not a complete wash outor anything like that but more of an annoyance or anything. not a lot of sunshine this afternoon either. fifty degrees, though, the good news, we'll be above the average high of 42 degrees and with the cooldown. yesterday, we had 61; today, temperatures in the mid-50s. warming up and we're around 60. when we'll see the warmth then, and some rain chances in the seven-day forecast.

and we do begin with a holiday tragedy in stoughton. the owner of a christmas tree stand killed while crossing the street next ho to his business. the driver accused in the crash is suspected of being high on drugs. >> that man was my life, you know, my husband is a gentle and kind man and he took him from me. i won't get him back. >> reporter: she sits in front of her christmas tree in disbelief, morning the loss of her beloved husband. joe brady was killed friday night, a husband and grandfather suddenly taken in a brutal way. he was hit by a car as he was crossing route 27 trying to get to the roadside christmas tree shop in stoughton. >> hit him and threw him in the air and that was it. >> plowed right into him? >> yes. and knocked the shoes off. he hit the windshield and he was a good 25, 30 feet down the road where they found him. >> reporter: the driver, 33- year-old michael burns of taunton, was arrested and charged with driving under the

>> i hope they throw the book at him and charge him with everything. and homicide, drugs, the whole 9 yards. i want him gone. >> reporter: joe brady's passion was auto racing. he had owned race cars for five decades, a member of the new england racing hall of fame. >> and she was a -- he was a legend. i say that because of the racing history. >> reporter: even those who worked with him over the years remember much more than that. they remember the man himself. >> he was one of my heros. he is one of my friends and he taught me a lot more about life than he did about racing. >> reporter: and on saturday night, that christmas tree shop across the way remained open for business. the staff thinking of joe brady each and every moment. as far as the defense goes, he's being held over the weekend on $30,000 bail and is due in court monday morning.

and a car fire slowed traffic down along route 93 earlier this morning and this is the scene in summerville. firefighters were called to the car. there was no word if anyone was injured or what caused the blaze. the navy's new health destroyer helped rescue a fisherman in distress. he was suffering from chest pains. the coast guard crew flew to the scene and was unable to bring him aboard. a small boat from the destroyer picked hip up and they hoisted him from there. now this morning, pope francis is coming to north america again and boston's o'malley will join the pope. he will make a six-day trip to mexico arriving on february 12th. the pope plans to make a statement about immigrant rights and stop along the mexican-u.s. border. the cardinal o'malley told the

the pope during the final day in mexico. former vice president al gore among those in the crowd in france applauding a worldwide agreement to fight climate change. the deal comes two weeks after the leaders of nearly 200 nations convened to cut greenhouse gases. the agreement will help save the planet, but critics said it doesn't go far enough. hundreds ali-- rallied in downtown austin calling for stricter rules. but negotiators in paris said it's a good start. >> and. >> reporter: after 10 days of talks, nearly 200 countries agree to find global warming. they pledge to switch from burning oil, coal, and gas to clean and renewable energy sources like solar power for decades to come. >> the agreement demonstrates solidarity and this ambitious

>> reporter: it calls for the global average temperature rise to be held to less than 2 degrees celsius, 2.6 degrees fahrenheit and lower if possible. $100billion will be given from rich countries to poor countries to help them move away from fossil fuels. >> we're going to have to begin to change the way we power our planet and things. >> reporter: protest popped up under the eiffel tower, arguing it doesn't go far enough. and others believe it will restrict the u.s. and other countries too much. and a handful of nations have not submitted emissions targets. >> we can't be complacent because of today's agreement. the problem is not solved because there is a court. >> reporter: the agreement sends a strong message to the global economy to move investments and technology toward clean energy. brian webb for cbs news, new york. >> after wing 10 straight, the

or two and the latest timing on that coming up in the full forecast. >> and thank you. police in california have arrested a person of interest in the fire bombing of a mosque. investigators are calling the blaze at the islamic center of palm springs an intentional act and police have not directly linked the vandalism to the terror attack in california, but it's being investigated as a hate crime. and katie brace reports that investigators continue to look for clues about the couple who carried out the attack in san bernardino as more victims were laid to rest. >> reporter: final goodbyes to some of the victims of the san bernadino shootings. in georgia, family members say that shannon johnson was killed that day using his body as a shield to protect a coworker. >> he's been my protector. >> he's fearless and been that way always. >> and a funeral for another in california: the president used the weekly radio address to

>> even as the community continues to grieve, people refuse to be ruled by fear. >> reporter: they spent the third day look if -- looking for clues in thisar take. and it's 10 minutes from where they opened fire. on friday afternoon, divers pulled several objects from the water, including what appeared to be a cd or dvd. they were looking for their missing computer hard drive. and investigators are theo -- theorizing that they may have had bigger know plas including setting up bigger bombs ahead of the shooting. >> and if we had a credible threat and that it was something we could mitigate from a law enforcement know. >> reporter: they're focusing on enrique vasquez. he's been talking with the fbi the last five days and confessed to planning an farouk. marquez has not been charged

sunshine and going to be few and far between here and the clouds ruled the forecast and areas of drizzle, too and there is some damp air. we don't have any heavy showers. mild, 50 degrees in boston; 51, plymouth and hyannis and from everyone in lawrence, manchester and in fitchburg. the satellite and radar picture will show us the clouds dominating the picture here and we can't have heavy showers or anything and there is nothing expected today. the drizzle, clouds and name story and temperatures and we'll run 5 to 15 degrees cooler compared to yesterday and through 5:00, they hang 40s. again to your monday, the changes will move in and we go back to near 60 degrees and we have a chance of widespread thunderstorm. i will explain coming up in the kerry.

and checking our top stories now, he's being remembered as a family man and a hard worker. 71-year-old joseph brady of stoughton was hit and killed friday night by a driver police say was high on drugs. he was trying to cross route 27 to reach the roadside stand where he was selling christmas trees when he was hit. the 33-year-old michael burns of taunton will be in court tomorrow. and boston's cardinal o'malley will join pope francis during the next visit to north america. the pope arrives on friday, february 12th, for a six-day visit to mexico, including a stop in ciudad, juarez. and that is one of the major points of entry into the united states. the pope is expected to make of immigrants. and helps rallied in downtown boston, calling for change. yesterday in paris, world leaders from 200 countries reached a global agreement on climate change designed to

greenhouse gases. environmentalists say it doesn't go far enough to move the world to clean energy and away from fossil fuel. it was a final goodbye. and it took more than 60 years. sergeant robert dayken was missing since going off to search in the korean war. the family and his hometown of waltham were finally able to give him a last salute. >> reporter: a homecoming more than six decades old. >> we gather to welcome home army sergeant robert c. daykin who has been separated from his family, his friends, his hometown, has country for 65 years. >> reporter: sergeant robert daykin served in the korean war and in 1950, he went missing in action. the two-year-old never came only -- 22-year-old never came home. >> and declared killed in action on december 31st of 1953. >> reporter: for decades, the

his remains were identified later through dna. >> and his mother never gave up hope and that hope has been fulfilled today. >> amazing grace. >> reporter: during the ceremony, mourners prayed, silence. his longtime friend and high school teammate, 87-year-old warren macarthur, took time to reflect back. >> and what stands in my mind would want to see. closure to me. >> robert daykin gave all he welcome home, bobby. >> i outside the church, waltham. they stood on buildings and held flags to pay the respects for a man who made the ultimate sacrifice. >> and -- the peace of having someone back but -- . >> to being free. >> reporter: paul burton, wbz news, waltham.

train took off without him will face a disciplineir's -- disciplinary hearing tomorrow. the operator david cause question violated multiple safety procedures. wbz learned a robert chord was wrapped around the throttle controls that circumvented the safety procedures that stopped the train if an operator was not on board and that trap rolled on for 9 minutes before stop. he got off of the train to deal with a signal problem and he could be fired. the flames gutted a cape cod home. firefighters worked to douse hotspots at this house yesterday and it's not clear how it started or if anyone was home at the time. crews, including chatham, brewster, and dennis, helped and new england -- throughout new england and the country, volunteers laid wreaths on the tombs of national cemetaries. the wreaths across america

700,000 wreaths at 1,000 locations, including bourne. this idea to honor veterans during the holidays began in 1992. and campaign 2016 now. there are new republican poll numbers out of iowa. the bloomberg -- senator ted cruz is on top, coming in with 31%. trump gets 21% followed by ben carson. and meanwhile, republican presidential candidate jeb bush is questioning the true motives behind donald trump's campaign. bush sat down with jon keller earlier this week and the former florida governor said that trump is disrupting the gop race with a goal of electing clinton. >> do you really believe he's out to help her? >> i don't know how else to describe it. he's motivated for some reason but he's not motivated to win the presidency. >> proponents of the theory note that trump used to be a democrat.

and some drizzle and clouds to rule the forecast the second day of the weekend. the upper 40s and lower 50s and we see milder air and warmer -- warmer than the average high temperature and that and 42 degrees in boston and a low of 44. the clouds helping, too, to trap in the daytime heat and keeping us milder and this is the latest. and no heavy showers on the pictures here and we have the clouds to rule and areas of drizzle and noon going through the evening, 6:00 p.m. and still overcast for most and some breaks in the clouds. 6:00 a.m., looking like some and increases afternoon on monday and then it starts to ramp up for 7:00 p.m. as the warm front lifts to the northeast and the warm front is bringing not only warmer temperatures, but say around 60

. welcome back, the red line operator whose train took off without him will face a disciplinary hearing tomorrow. the governor said operator david vasquez violated multiple safety procedures. wbz has learned that a rubber chord was wrapped around the throttle controls. that circumvented the safety procedures that stopped the train if an operator was not on board and it could cost vasquez his job. the runaway train rolled on for 9 minutes before power was cut and it came to a stop. and officials in newtown, connecticut, say they will try to make tomorrow as normal a school day as possible. that won't be easy, especially for parents. it's the first time students will actually be going to school on the anniversary of the handy hook -- sandy hook massacre.
